Jackie Robinson in Dodger Uniform, The Bay State Banner
“Dad spent his life fighting for equality. He won some battles and lost others. He made some mistakes, but he also inspired millions.”-Sharon Robinson, Promises to Keep, 2004.
After the Civil War, opinions on racial equality were very diverse. This sparked the debate about segregation. Jackie Robinson used his diplomatic skills to create a better future for all Black Americans. He worked with Branch Rickey and Pee Wee Reese to end segregation in baseball, and Martin Luther King Jr. and other politicians to fight for civil rights. Despite the odds being against him, on and off the ball field, Jackie Robinson won the debate about segregation.
